Frog hunting
Frog hunting is the most fun you didn’t know you could have between 6-9PM at night.
Frogs typically come out just after dusk and you will find them with a flashlight and a night-guide who is going to be waaaay better at catching them than visitors. (And have a sharp eye out for snakes and spiders).
Frogs are one of the most interesting ways to measure biodiversity. Amphibians have permeable skin which means that if there are any pollutants in the environment, they will die off first. (One reason you might not have seen a lot of them in your hometown if you live in the industrialized world.) They also bridge land and water so they are awesome bioindicators for ecosystem health, environmental impact, habitat loss and climate change.
But beyond just healthy ecosystems, frogs evolve and adapt very fast so they have a staggering array of species, but also some are living fossils unchanged for thousands of years. We are dedicated to biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem health, so we’re automatically big fans of frogs! If you come to the Amazon, the frogs will definitely sing to you. So take some time to listen and pay attention to this important ecological wealth!
We don’t kill or traffic any species so this is just hunting with a camera, not in any way to diminish its fun. We’ll bring a local biologist to identify species, and snacks!
